CHARGERS SECURE TIE IN SEASON OPENER

NEW LONDON, N.H. - The Colby-Sawyer women's soccer team kicked off their 2025 season against Westfield State at home on Friday afternoon which ended in a draw.

Rapid Recap:
  • The first half saw a very defensive presence from both sides holding each other to 0. Gabriela Calidonio (Flagler Beach, Fla.) was a force in the net for the Chargers taking on shot after shot, and coming up with multiple saves in the first half. Both the Owls and the Chargers were held scoreless as the teams headed to the locker room.
  • The second half kicked off with Sophomore Maddy Minckler (Claremont, N.H.) drawing a foul in the box that led to Lauren Ardolino (Milford, Conn.) would net the games first goal on the penalty kick. The Chargers would continue to hold their ground on the defensive side of the ball, holding the Owls to 0 until the seventy-seventh minute where the Owls would net their only goal of the game.
Inside the Numbers:
  • Calidonio would have a career day during her time as a Charger tallying 13 saves as she played all 90 minutes. The Chargers would also total four shots, landing all four on net with Ardolino being the lone scorer.
Post Game Press:
  • "I definitely have to keep my composure" said goalkeeper Gabriela Calidonio on her mindset in goal after her 13 save day. Talking about the quick turnaround, Calidonio mentions "we're going to stretch, recover and come ready to play tomorrow and get that win."
