Wenham, Mass. - The Colby-Sawyer women's tennis team picked up a 5-2 win over Gordon College Wednesday afternoon. The Chargers improve their overall record to 10-6.

The Chargers would sweep all three doubles positions to claim the opening point. The duo of senior Isabella Gutierrez Avendaño (Tegucigalpa, Honduras) and sophomore Maria Espinosa Lopez (Merida, Mexico) won 6-2 at number one while the duo of first-year Avery Nielsen (Thornhill, Ontario) and sophomore Payton Dugan (Vincennes, Ind.) won 6-2 at number two. Graduate student Mary Thoms (Northwood, N.H.) and first-year Sky Jara (South Hamilton, Mass.) would pick up a 6-4 win at three doubles.
- In singles action, Dugan cruised to a 6-1, 6-1 win at number one while Gutierrez won 6-2, 6-2 at number four. Nielsen would clinch the match for the Chargers picking up a 6-1, 7-5 win at number five.

"I'm so happy we got this win," said sophomore Maria Espinosa Lopez (Merida, Mexico). "It's a big win for us and it gives us a sense of what we will have to work on to succeed in the CNE this fall. The whole team was great as we all fought hard and had great results."
