NEW LONDON, N.H. - The Colby-Sawyer college women's lacrosse team opened up the Great Northeast Athletic Conference playoffs by hosting the Simmons Sharks on Thursday afternoon for the play-in game where they would cruise past the Sharks 18-3.
Rapid Recap:
- The Chargers would open the scoring with an early eight meter attempt that was taken by Soph Kuhlthau (Cheshire, Conn.) that would get them on the board. Madeline Knight (Pownal, Maine) would score the next goal just twenty four seconds later off an assist from Cecilia Ponzini (Windham, N.H.). Ponzini would get her turn with a beautiful spin move goal that was assisted by Knight. Heather Hanson (Barnstable, Mass.) would get on the stat sheet with a goal assisted by Rose Finlayson (Hopkinton, N.H.). Ponzini would score again, followed by Lauren Vignola (Ringwood, N.J.) to give the Chargers a 6-0 lead.
- Kuhlthau would open up the second quarter scoring, off another assist from Ponzini. Hanson and Finlayson would connect on another goal, right before Vignola would score again on an assist from Hanson. Heather Hanson and Soph Kuhlthau would score the next four goals having two goals each, while the Sharks would score between the goals making it 13-2 going into halftime.
- Finlayson would score two goals in the third quarter on beautiful underhand goals with one being assisted from Elena Bronson (Monkton, Vt.). Vignola would score her third goal of the game in between the Finlayson goals to put the Chargers up 16-2.Â
- Ponzini would set up Finlayson for another goal, while Hanson scored her fifth goal of the game to put the Chargers up 18-2. The Sharks would get one last goal from Frida Turriza to give her the hat trick as she would score all three goals for the Sharks.Â
Inside the Numbers:Â
- Heather Hanson would lead the way as she tallied five goals, and one assist. That would give her seven points in the game to tie the career points record adding another accolade to her impressive resume. Soph Kuhlthau would have four goals and four draw controls, while Rose Finalyson would have three goals and four assists. Lauren Vignola would score three goals, and Cecilia Ponzini would add another two goals and three assists. Madeline Knight would round out the scoring with a goal, and two assists.Â
- AJ Paton (Exeter, N.H.) would pick up the win in net, while making three saves and only allowing three goals.

The Chargers will head into the Quarterfinals where Johnson & Wales University will host them on Saturday, April 25th with a time to be determined.
