CHARGERS DEFENSE SHINES IN 2-0 WIN OVER VERMONT STATE CASTLETON

NEW LONDON, N.H. - The Colby-Sawyer women's soccer team picked up a 2-0 win Sunday afternoon in a non-conference match with the Vermont State Castleton Spartans.

Rapid Recap:
  • The Spartans tested the Charger defense early in the first half firing shots on target and several corner kicks, but the defense remained tough for the Chargers. The Chargers offense went on the attack and found the back of net in the 20th minute with a goal by senior Bridget O'Connell (Peabody, Mass.). Four minutes later, senior Halle Pletzer (Barre, Vt.) extended the Chargers lead to 2-0 with a goal of her own. The Chargers continued to battle in the midfield with the Spartans and fired shots on target by first-year Maddy Minckler (Claremont, N.H.) and junior Lauren Ardolino (Milford, Conn.), but Emma Ezzo remained strong in the net for the visitors, concluding the first half with the Chargers leading 2-0.
  • The Spartans continued to battle back in the second half with several shots, but junior Gabriela Calidonio (Flager Beach, Fla.) made key saves for the Chargers. Junior Lauren McKee (Littleton, N.H.) fired a shot on target to extend the home team's offensive pressure, but Ezzo stayed tough in the net. The Chargers and Spartans traded shots back and forth late in the second half, but neither team was able to score a goal of their own. First-year Nicole Morello (Wilmington, Mass.) made several saves for the Chargers in the second half, stopping the Spartans offensive momentum, which gave the Chargers the 2-0 victory at home.
