SLOCUM NOTCHES 2 GOALS IN CHARGERS WIN OVER THE PRIDE

WESTON, MASS. – The Colby-Sawyer field hockey team earned a 4-1 victory over the Regis College Pride on Saturday to improve to 4-1 in conference action.  
  
Rapid Recap:  
  • The Chargers started off the match with offensive pressure as senior Courtney Larson (Auburn, Maine) scored a goal giving the Charges a 1-0 lead. The Chargers continued to stay on the attack in the first quarter with shots by senior Sabrina Lippold (Windham, N.H.) and junior Cecillia Ponzini (Windham, N.H.), but were saved by the Regis goalkeeper.  
  • Colby-Sawyer carried the momentum over into the second quarter as first-year Brooke Farquhar (Gorham, Maine) found the back of the next, extending the Chargers lead to 2-0. The Chargers stayed on the attack with shots by senior Alyssa Slocum (Windsor, Vt.), first-year Ashley Pelletier (Bridgton, Maine), and sophomore Abby Olden (Belchertown, Mass.), but key saves from the Pride kept the match at 2-0 heading into the half.  
  • The Chargers offense continued to press, generating several shots by Farquhar, and Lippold, and first-year Ava Bennett (Hampstead, N.H.). Colby-Sawyer was able to extend their offensive pressure with key penalty corners by Larson, but were unable to score, maintaining the Charger 2-0 lead at the end of the third quarter.  
  • The Pride continued to fight back, scoring an early goal in the fourth quarter to trail the Chargers 2-1. The Chargers responded with back-to-back goals from Slocum to increase the lead to 4-1 which would solidify the victory for the Chargers.  
 
Post-Game Press:  
"It felt great to win today," said senior Alyssa Slocum (Windsor, Vt.). "It was great to be able to capitalize on some shots and show who we are, but we're not done yet!"
 
Inside The Numbers:  
  • Slocum led the way for the Chargers with 2 goals, while Farquhar and Larson would each chip in a goal.  
  • Ponzini and Farquhar each added an assist in the game.  
  • The Chargers outshot the Pride 25-3.  
  • Senior Carly Bernard (Swanze, N.H.) recorded 2 saves in the Chargers win.  
 
Up Next:   
The Chargers will travel to Henniker on Wednesday to take on inner-state rival New England College with a 7:00PM start.
