HENNIKER, N.H. - The Colby-Sawyer women's field hockey team handed New England College their first conference loss of the season in an overtime thriller Wednesday night.
Rapid Recap:
- The Chargers seemed to attack early, and attack often finding ways to get through the Pilgrams defense to add pressure in a battle of some of the GNAC top teams this season.Â
- Ashlee Blashock (Lebanon, N.H.) was once again phenomenal in goal as she recorded her third career shutout in as many games picking up her third win on the season while tallying 4 saves.
- The possession seemed to go back and forth for a while throughout the whole game as it continued to change from defensive end to the other but the Chargers led the first three quarters on the attack leading to 11Â shots as a team. New England College added some pressure in the fourth that was shut down time and time again by Blashock and the Chargers defense.
- The game went into overtime as some may have expected in this match up, but it was just 17 seconds in when First Year Brooke Farquhar (Gorham, Maine) scored the game winner off an assist from Cecilia Ponzini (Windham, N.H.) to hand NEC their first conference loss of the season.
Inside the Numbers:
- The game winner was the third career game winning goal Farquhar has had in her young career, while also tallying her 5th career goal.
- Ponzini's assist to Farquhar was the third time this duo has connected this season on a goal for the Chargers with the first two coming on assists from Farquhar to Ponzini.
- Blashock is already off to a great start in her young career in net for the Chargers as she is 3-3 on shutouts and wins, already tying for the 4th most shutouts in a season.
Post Game Press:
"Today's game was a total team effort" said First Year
Brooke Farquhar. "Our passing game was on point and we knew what we needed to do going into overtime. Our defense held strong all game and all it took was one good passing sequence down the field for us to execute."
