CHARGERS ROLL PAST FALCONS 5-0

NEW LONDON, N.H.  – The Colby-Sawyer field hockey team earned a 5-0 win over Albertus Magnus at home Saturday afternoon.

Rapid Recap: 
  • The Chargers came out strong, opening the scoring early with a goal by first-year Brooke Farquhar (Gorham, Mass.) to give the home team an early lead. The Chargers continued with back-to-back shots on target by first-year Ava Bennett (Hampstead, N.H.) and sophomore Abby Olden (Belchertown, Mass.) before sophomore Aili Carney (Derry, N.H.) gave the Chargers the 2-0 at the half.
  • Colby-Sawyer continued their attack in the third quarter with shots on target by senior Alyssa Slocum (Windsor, Vt.) and Farquhar before junior Cecilia Ponzini (Windham, N.H.) set the ball to the back of the net, giving the Chargers a 3-0 lead. The home team extended their lead in the fourth quarter with a goal by first-year Ella Riley (Dayton, Maine) with the assist coming from sophomore Kylie Walden (Bellingham, Mass.). First-year Ashlee Blashock (Lebanon, N.H.) remained solid behind the goal denying multiple shots from the visiting Falcons. Graduate student Chloe Makela (York, Maine) capped off the scoring for the Chargers late in the fourth quarter to give the home team a 5-0 victory.

Inside The Numbers:
  • Ashley Pelletier (Bridgton, Maine) and Courtney Larson (Auburn, Maine) each tallied an assist for the Chargers while Carney and Farquhar each contributed a goal and an assist in the win.
  • Ashlee Blashock picked up her first collegiate win of the season with three saves for the Chargers in the net.
 
Up Next: 
The Chargers will travel to Nashua on Tuesday to take on inner-state rival Rivier University with a 7:00 PM start.
