CHARGERS WIN DOUBLE OT THRILLER

New London, NH - The Colby-Sawyer women's field hockey team took home an exciting double overtime victory Wednesday afternoon against Saint Joseph's College (Maine) as the Chargers came out on top 3-2.

Rapid Recap:

  • The Chargers opened up the game trying to find an early goal, and were holding the Monks on the defensive end as Saint Joseph's did not record a shot in the first quarter. The Chargers on the other hand tallied 5, but could not find a goal for the early lead.
  • The Chargers led again in shots in the second quarter, but the lone shot from the Monks in the quarter gave them the early 1-0 lead. The Chargers couldn't find the tie as they went into the third quarter down 1-0.
  • The third quarter saw the Chargers tally the game tying goal by Senior Alyssa Slocum (Windsor, Vt.) off an assist from Sophomore Aili Carney (Derry, N.H.). The Chargers once again led the quarter in shots holding the Monks to just three as they had eight. The defense was holding their own and not letting anything past.
  • Junior Cecilia Ponzini (Windham, N.H.) was able to give the Chargers a 2-1 lead in the fourth quarter off an assist from Slocum. The Monks would retailate and score the game tying goal five minutes later to bring this game into overtime.
  • The second overtime saw Ponzini score the game winner off an assist by Freshman Brooke Farquhar (Gorham, Maine) also giving Ponzini her second goal of the game.
  • Farquhar also led the Chargers in shots with four. Senior, Courtney Larson (Auburn, Maine) finished with three shots. Carney, Abby Olden (Belchertown, Mass.), Sabrina Lippold (Windham, N.H.), and Aubrey Fischer (Weare, N.H.) all finished with two shots. Goalie Carly Bernard finished with 7 saves on the afternoon.
