Chargers Secure Last Regular Season Game to Tie Single Season Wins Record

NEW LONDON, NH – The Colby-Sawyer women's lacrosse team gathered its eighth and final regular season Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) win for the year on Monday beating Lasell University by a score of 18-6.

Rapid Recap:

  • The Chargers started the game with a dominant offensive presence. First year Rose Finlayson (Hopkinton, N.H.) started off the scoring for the day with a crafty goal unassisted. Colby-Sawyer ultimately found its groove in the middle of the first quarter with four goals in the span of 76 seconds. This effort was started by sophomore Cecilia Ponzini (Windham, N.H.) finding the back of the net. Followed by graduate student Sydney Stevens (Laconia, N.H.) and first year Andrea Smith (Gray, Maine) each tabbing a goal. Finlayson closed out the quarter with another goal, putting the Chargers ahead 5-2 headed into the second period of play.
  • Offensive production picked up where it left off with Ponzini and Finlayson each adding another goal to the stat sheet. The Chargers offense proved to be dominant as first year Madeline Knight (Pownal, Maine) added another goal to the year. Colby-Sawyer didn't let off the brakes with Finlayson tabbing her fourth goal of the day. The Chargers closed out the half with a man-up goal coming from junior captain Soph Kuhlthau (Cheshire, Conn.) putting Colby-Sawyer up 10-3 going into the next half.
  • The Chargers defense proved to be a factor in the second half with no Laser goals in 25 minutes of play. Stevens found the back of the net again to mark her 100th career collegiate goal for Colby-Sawyer. While Smith put in back-to-back goals to give her a hat-trick for the day. With a late Lasers goal, the Chargers would head into the next period of play up 13-4.
  • Colby-Sawyer remained red hot with Finlayson marking a career high of five goals in a single game. Senior Olivia Romo (Marlboro, Vt.) beat the defense to put away her first goal of the day. Junior captain Heather Hanson (Barnstable, Mass.) found Knight for another Charger goal before putting her own away a couple minutes later. The Lasers would put away two more goals, until graduate student Hannah Marquis (Weare, N.H.) finished the game with one of her own. This effort would end the game 18-6, with the Chargers securing the win in their final regular season game.
