Northborough, MASS. – The Colby-Sawyer baseball squad continued their streak out of Myrtle Beach topping the Emerson Lions in 9 with a score of, 7-3.
Rapid Recap
- The Chargers jumped ahead early set up by a Cam Carignan (Rutland, Mass.) single and completed by a graduate student Cooper O'Brien (Vergennes, Vt.) ground out in the top of the first. An Evan Dennis (East Ryegate, Vt.) single, and a Noah Staffier (Beverly, Mass.) would set the visitors up for success in the top of the second. Finn Maclennan (Ipswitch, Mass.) would take the honors of an RBI grounded out to second allowing Dennis to score giving the Chargers a 2-0 lead.
- In the top of the sixth the Chargers would find their bats with O'Brien swinging a single and stealing second base to be battled in off of a Nick Johnson (Manchester, N.J.) single. Johnson would return the favor stealing second himself and scoring off of a Dennis single. Two batters later with Staffier and Dennis on base a Dylan Montalvo (Coram, NY) double would bring home Dennis putting the Chargers up 5-0. The home team would score two in response in their half of the sixth from a home swing from Loveland with a man on base.
- In the top of the ninth the Chargers solidified their win with Seth Roeger (Salem, N.H.) hitting in Mike McLeer (Saco, Maine) and then taking his turn scoring off of a O'Brien single. This would conclude a 7-3 win over the Lions.
On the Mound:
- Senior Zach Rogers (Mashpee, Mass.) tabbed his second win of the year with 7.0 innings pitched allowing three runs, five hits and four strikeouts. First year Colin Burchard (Upton, Mass) and junior Jack Mullen (Norfolk, Mass.) finished out the game for the Chargers each pitching one inning, both with zero earned runs and a strikeout a piece.
At the Plate:
- O'Brien led the offensive attack going 2-4 with one run scored, a pair of RBIs, a walk and a stolen base. Dennis tallied a 2-4 stat too with two runs and an RBI. Roeger added one run going 1-for-1 at the plate with one RBI. Lastly Carignan went 2-for-5 with one run and one double.
