CHARGERS SWEEP LESLEY LYNX IN FRIDAY’S DUAL MATCH

NEW LONDON, N.H. – The Colby-Sawyer College women's volleyball team picked up two big wins Friday night defeating Lesley University (25-8, 25-8, 25-7) and (25-7, 25-6, 25-15). The Chargers improve their overall record to 18-7 and remain undefeated at home. 
Rapid Recap (Match 1): 
  • The Chargers started off the day, taking an impressive 8-1 lead over the visiting Lynx in the first set as sophomore Bree Bacon (Brookline, Mass.) would chip in two service aces. First-year Brooke Tasker (Wolfeboro, N.H.) would extend the Chargers lead to 10-4 with a kill. Tasker would then chip in a service ace and a kill by first-year Kamryn Brakemeier (Fort Worth, Texas) would extend the Charger's lead to 20-8. Brakemeier would secure the 25-8 first set victory for the Chargers will a kill and a service ace. 
  • Bacon and Brakemeier would continue the Chargers momentum with a service ace and kill to give the home team an early 8-3 lead over the Lynx. Kills by senior Katie Mollberg (Naples, Fla.), sophomore Haley Hathorn (Hillsboro, N.H.), and Brakemeier would extend the Charger lead to 22-6 in the second set as the visiting Lynx would continue to fight and put up points of their own. The Chargers would capitalize on mistakes made by the Lynx and took the second set 25-8. 
  • The Lynx continued to battle with the Chargers and trailed 7-3 early in the third set, but kills by seniors Audra Fontes (Fresno, Calif.) and Ally Majenski (Marshfield, Mass.) would extend the home team's lead to 10-3. Kills by Majenski and Tasker would increase the Chargers lead, but the Lynx continued to fight trailing the Chargers 15-6 late in the third set. Back-to-back kills by Brakemeier and senior Brooke Patnode (Weare, N.H.) as the Chargers won the third set 25-7 and swept the Lynx 3-0 in the first match of the day. 
Inside the Numbers: 
  • Sophomore Brenna Piller (Simsbury, Conn.) led the way for the Chargers with 16 assists while Bacon added seven. 
  • Piller would also chip in three service aces and 12 digs for the Chargers while Mandrino recorded eight digs. 
  • Brakemeier added eight kills for the Chargers  as well as four digs.


  
Rapid Recap (Match 2): 
  • The Lynx took an early 3-1 lead in the first set over the Chargers capitalizing on mistakes made early. The Chargers quickly took control of the match as first-year Kamryn Brakemeier (Fort Worth, Texas) put down three kills to give the home team a 10-5 lead. The Chargers extended their lead to 20-6 as sophomore Bree Bacon (Brookline, N.H.) chipped in three service aces back-to-back. Sophomore Haley Hathorn (Hillsboro, N.H.) would chip in two services aces of her own to keep the home team on top, before first-year Leah Barlow (Bourne, Mass. ) would put the ball away with a kill of her own to end the first set, 25-7 favoring the Chargers.
  • The Chargers took control of the second set and took 9-1 lead over the Lynx with a kill from senior Katie Mollberg (Naples, Fla.) and back-to-back service aces by sophomore Lexi Mandrino (Dunbarton, N.H.). Brakemeier would chip in a service ace and another kill to extend the Chargers lead to 18-4 in the second set. The Chargers would take the second set 25-6 with kills from first-year Judy Mancilla (Purcellville, Va.) and senior Brooke Patnode (Weare, N.H.).
  • The Chargers continued to dominate in the third set, taking an impressive 12-3 lead over the visiting Lynx as Mollberg would chip in four kills and sophomore Brenna Piller (Simsbury, Conn.) would chip in a kill of her own. Back-to-back kills by Mollberg and a kill by first-year Madison Sinatro (Simsbury, Conn.) to extend the Chargers lead to 20-14. Sinatro would solidify the Chargers victory with a service ace of her own as the home would sweep the Lynx in the second game of the day 3-0. 


Inside the Numbers: 
  • Patnode led the way for the Chargers with 24 assists while Mollberg added three. 
  • Mollberg chipped in 10 kills for the Chargers while Brakemeier and Hathorn each added eight and four kills respetively.
  • Bacon, Brakemeier, and Hathorn each recorded four service access while Mandrino chipped in three. 


Post Game Press: 
"It was a great win today," said sophomore Bree Bacon (Brookline, Mass.). "Everyone stepped up and played their part. We really focused on the 'do your job' and that was showcased tonight!"

Up Next: 
The Chargers return to action on Wednesday as they travel to Standish, Maine to take on the Monks of Saint Joseph's College of Maine with a 6:00 PM start.
