CHARGERS CAPTURE 2-1 WIN OVER THE BLAZERS

CHICOPEE, MASS. - The Colby-Sawyer women's soccer team traveled to Elms College for an in conference match-up with playoff positioning on the line as the Chargers would come away with the 2-1 victory.

Rapid Recap:
  • The Chargers would start off the game how they normally would, adding pressure early on ripping 4 shots in the first ten minutes. They would continue to put on that pressure throughout the entirety of the first half, finding a way to give themselves opportunities to score in such a hard fought conference game with both teams next to each other in the standings. Bridget O'Connell (Peabody, Mass.) would lead the way with 5 shots in the first half but halftime would read 0-0 on the score board.
  • The Chargers attacked early again in the second half, and it would prove to benefit them as Sam Bishop (Windham, N.H.) found O'Connell to set up the first goal of the game and giving the Chargers a 1-0 advantage. The Chargers defense would hold strong and stop every attack the Blazers would go on to make trying to tie the game. The Blazers would go on to tie the game in the 73rd minute, setting up another possible tie for the Chargers.
  • The 88th minute would roll around and on the Chargers throw in taken by Hannah Himes (Williston, V.T.) would find the foot of O'Connell who would put it in to the back of the net to give the Chargers a 2-1 lead, and Himes her first collegiate assist! The Chargers would hold their ground and come away on top by a score 2-1 in a must win game against the Blazers.
Inside the Numbers:
  • O'Connell would put another 2 goals in giving her 18 on the season putting her just 3 away from her career high while making her 9th in the nation in total goals.
