BIDDEFORD, MAINE. – The Colby-Sawyer field hockey team fell short to the University of New England 5-0 on Wednesday afternoon.
Rapid Recap:
- The Nor'easters brought the intensity in the first quarter firing three shots on target, but first-year Charger goalkeeper Ashlee Blashock (Lebanon, N.H.) made keys saves for the visiting team. Senior Alyssa Slocum (Windsor, Vt.) would fire the first shot of the day for the Chargers in the 11th minute, but UNE goalkeeper Dawn DeWeese-Moss remained tough in net as the score remained at 0-0 at the end of the first quarter.
- The Nor'easters struck first in the second quarter scoring a goal in the first minute to give the home team an early 1-0 lead. Four minutes later UNE would score their second goal of the game taking a 2-0 lead. Sophomore Abby Olden (Belchertown, Mass.) would go on the attack for the Chargers firing a shot of her own but was unsuccessful at finding the back of the net. A goal in the 20th minute by the Nor'easters would extend their lead 3-0 and UNE continued to stay on the attack for the remainer of the quarter. Blashock made three saves for the Chargers to keep the score at 3-0, but UNE would score their fourth goal of the game in the 24th minute and would take a 4-0 lead heading into the half.
- UNE continued their offensive attack in the third quarter firing shots on target, but Blashock stayed tough in the net. The Chargers would go on the attack late in the third quarter with first-year Brooke Farquhar (Gorham, Maine) senior Sabrina Lippold (Windham, N.H.), and Olden firing shots of their own, but were unable to score a goal as the Nor'easters led the Chargers 4-0 at the end of the third quarter.
- UNE continued to control on the offensive end in the fourth quarter firing several shots as Blashock made key saves to keep the score at 4-0. The Nor'easters would eventually score their fifth goal of the game in the 54th minute to take a 5-0 lead over the Chargers. Olden and Lippold would fire shots of their own but could not find the net as the quarter ended with the Nor'easters taking a 5-0 win over the visiting Chargers.
Inside The Numbers:
- The Nor'easters outshot the Chargers 28-7 with a 16-3 shots on target differential.
- Blashock played the full 60 minutes in net and recorded 11 saves.

The Chargers will travel to West Hartford, Connecticut on Saturday to take on the University of Saint Joseph's (Conn.) with a 12:00 PM start.
