CHARGERS FALL ON THE ROAD TO BLUE JAYS 4-1

WEST HARTFORD, CONN.  – The Colby-Sawyer field hockey team fell short to the University of Saint Joseph's (Conn.) 4-1 Saturday afternoon.
Rapid Recap:
  • The Blue Jays and Chargers traded shots back and forth throughout the first quarter Saturday afternoon. Senior Courtney Larson (Auburn, Maine) and first-years Ashley Pelletier (Bridgton, Maine) and Brooke Farquhar (Gorham, Maine) would each fire a shot on target, but Blue Jays goalkeeper Abby Delgado remained tough in net as the game remained scoreless at the end of the first quarter.
  • The Blue Jays brought the offensive pressure early and scored a goal of their own in the first minute to take a 1-0 lead over the Chargers. The Chargers continued to fight back as Farquhar fired back-to-back shots on target, but Delgado made key saves to keep the home team on top. The Blue Jays scored their second goal of the game in the 25th minute to extend their lead to 2-0 and would take this lead with them heading into the half.
  • The Chargers continued to battle the Blue Jays as Farquhar would cut the Blue Jays lead to 2-1 with a goal of her own early in the third quarter. The Blue Jays would go on the attack, but first-year Charger goalkeeper Ashlee Blashock (Lebanon, N.H.) made saves to keep the Chargers within one goal. Junior Taylor Gaudette (North Conway, N.H.) fired back-to-back shots on target for the Chargers, but was unable to find the back of the net as the Blue Jays led the Chargers 2-1 at the end of the third quarter.
  • The Blue Jays took control in the fourth quarter as they extended their lead to 3-1 in the 57th minute and continued to fire shots on target. Just a minute later, the Blue Jays would score their fourth goal of the game and take a 4-1 lead over the visiting Chargers.
