DUGAN SECURES 4-3 WIN OVER SPRINGFIELD COLLEGE

SPRINGFIELD, MASS. – The Charger women's tennis team picked up a 4-3 win over Springfield College Wednesday afternoon. The Chargers improve their record to 6-1.

Rapid Recap: 
  • The Pride claimed the opening point in doubles action winning the number 1 and 2 doubles. First-year Avery Nielsen (Thornhill, Ontario) and sophomore Payton Dugan (Vincennes, Ind.) won at the number 3 doubles 6-0, but the Pride took the early lead after doubles action.
  • In singles action, senior Isabella Gutierrez (Tegucigalpa, Honduras) picked up a 6-3, 6-4 win at number 4, Maria Espinosa Lopez (Merida, Mexico) won 6-4, 6-4 at number 5, and Nielsen won 4-6, 6-3, 10-7 at number 6. Dugan secured the Chargers 4-3 win at number one position winning 7-5, 7-5.

"It felt great out there to get the win today," said sophomore Payton Dugan (Vincennes, Ind.). "It was an awesome feeling to clinch the match for the team today. We're going to continue working hard at practice these next couple of days to prepare for USJ on Saturday."

Up Next: 
The Chargers return to action on Saturday as they travel to West Hartford, Connecticut to take on University of Saint Joseph's (Conn.) in their final conference match of the regular season with a 12:00 PM start.
