CHARGERS CELEBRATE SENIOR DAY WITH 7-0 WIN OVER MITCHELL

NEW LONDON, N.H. - The Colby-Sawyer women's soccer team picked up a 7-0 win over Mitchell College on Saturday afternoon, improving to 5-2-5 in GNAC conference play.
 
Rapid Recap:  
  • The Chargers came ready to fight on Saturday bringing the offensive pressure early. Senior Bridget O'Connell (Peabody, Mass.) scored the first goal for the Chargers in the seventh minute of the game. Senior Hannah Himes (Williston, Vt.) and graduate student Sam Bishop (Windham, N.H.) fired shots on target by Mariner goalkeeper Gemma Landry made key saves. In the twelfth minute of the game, Bishop found the back of the net to give the home team an early 2-0 lead. The Chargers continued to stay on the attack with juniors Lauren Ardolino (Milford, Conn.) and Lauren McKee (Littleton, N.H.) firing shots on target before O'Connell would record her second goal of the game to extend the Chargers lead 3-0. Senior Halle Pletzer (Barre, Vt.) continued the Chargers offensive attack firing shots on target, but Landry remained tough in net. Sophomore Stella Lavertue (Claremont, N.H.) would extend the Chargers' lead to 4-0 with a goal of her own to end the first half.
  • The Chargers continued to dominate on the offensive attack with O'Connell and Pletzer firing shots of their own. O'Connell would score her third goal of the game in the 55th minute with an assist from Bishop to extend the Chargers lead to 5-0. Five minutes later, Ardolino would find the back of the net and get a goal of her own, extending the Chargers lead to 6-0. Sophomore Agata Markuns (Boxford, Mass.) and Himes would continue firing shots on target, but Landry stood tough in the net. O'Connell would score her fourth goal of the game in the 80th minute as the Chargers came away with a 7-0 victory over the Mitchell College Mariners.

 
Inside The Numbers:  
  • The Chargers outshot the Mariners 38-3 with 23-3 shots on target differential.
  • Pletzer led the way for the Chargers with three assists while senior Soph Kuhlthau (Cheshire, Conn.), first-year Maddy Minckler (Claremont, N.H.), O'Connell, Bishop, and Ardolino would all add an assist each.
  • First-years Nicole Morello (Wilmington, Mass.) and Aurora Proulx (Sheldon, Vt.) contributed to the shutout victory in net for the Chargers with Proulx chipping in three saves.

The Chargers will travel to Chicopee, Massachusetts on Wednesday to take on Elms College with a 7:00PM start.
