NEW LONDON, N.H. – The Colby-Sawyer women's soccer team continued its stellar play on Kelsey Soccer Field on Saturday defeating Anna Maria by a 4-0 final.
Rapid Recap:
- Junior Bridget O'Connell (Peabody, Mass.) got right to work taking two shots in the first three minutes, but AMCATS keeper Kortney Clark kept the score at 0-0. Junior Hannah Brown (Pembroke, N.H.) put the Chargers on top scoring in the 16th minute after a clear by Anna Maria found the foot of the right back who launched the shot over the keeper and into the net. Colby-Sawyer stayed on the attack and after two more shots were saved in the 38th minute the visitors finally went on the attack. In the 43rd minute graduate student Alexis LeBreton (Bangor, Maine) made their lone save of the day stopping Anetta DelPrado's shot to keep the game at 1-0 headed into the second half.
- The Chargers continued to battle with the AMCATS for the first 25 minutes continuing their shots. In the 72nd minute the lead doubled as senior Sam Bishop (Windham, N.H.) sent a ball into the box finished by senior Kara Keiper (Peterborough, N.H.). Just a minute late the Chargers found the back of the net again as junior Halle Pletzer (Barre, Vt.) beat out two defenders and finished with her left foot past Clark to make it 3-0. In the 83rd minute the seniors connected again as Bishop found Keiper for another goal to pickup the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) win.
Post-Game Press:
"I did not expect my goal to go in, but I knew we needed it in the first half", said junior
Hannah Brown (Pembroke, N.H.). "We knew we needed to win today and we are just looking forward to Wednesday."
Inside the Numbers:
- Keiper now leads the offensive output on the season with three goals and two assists on the season. Pletzer and Brown both added their first goals of the season.
- Bishop led the passing attack with a pair of assists.
- LeBreton is now 2-0 making one save in the win. First year Lyndsey Valletta (Macedon, N.Y.) came in for the second half not allowing a goal.
- The Chargers held a 33-2 shot differential with a 16-1 on target advantage.
