O'Connell Leads Chargers Past New England College 4-1

HENNIKER, N.H. – The Colby-Sawyer women's soccer team continued its winning streak on Wednesday evening, notching four goals in a 4-1 over New England College.

Rapid Recap:

  • Junior Bridget O'Connell (Peabody, Mass.) got to work early for the Chargers notching the first goal of the evening by finishing a pass from junior Halle Pletzer (Barre, Vt.) in the 7th minute. Not even eight minutes later in the match senior Kara Keiper (Peterborough, N.H.) joined the scoring off of a dish from O'Connell to double the lead. First year Lyndsey Valletta (Macedon, N.Y.) kept the lead for the Chargers safe making two saves against shots from Darian Taylor and Mia Loewnberg in the half to keep the 2-0 lead going into halftime.
  • The Chargers continued to battle with the Pilgrims taking an early shot from first year Riley Paul (Londonderry, Vt.). The momentum stayed with the Chargers as senior Sam Bishop (Windham, N.H.) found graduate student Hannah Marquis (Weare, N.H.) for the third goal of the match. Five minutes later O'Connell would tally her second goal of the evening off another feed from Pletzer. The Pilgrims would respond with four shots, one being on target which Valetta would keep from reaching the back of the net. In the 80th minute New England College would finally find the back of the net off a shot from Darian Taylor to bring the game to 4-1, but the Chargers would hold on for the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) win.

Post Game Press:
"It was great to get this conference win today", said junior Bridget O'Connell (Peabody, Mass.). "We connected as a team very well, we were able to move the ball, and our communication was key. We are looking to keep the momentum going into our conference game this Saturday, which will be a very competitive game against one of the top teams in the conference!"
