Chargers Continue Winning Ways with Victory Over Albertus Magnus

NEW HAVEN, Conn. – The Colby-Sawyer women's soccer team picked up a huge Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) road victory over Albertus Magnus by a 2-1 final on Saturday. 
 
Rapid Recap:

  • The Chargers jumped on the Falcons early getting three shots that all missed the target. In the 13th minute junior Bridget O'Connell (Peabody, Mass.) picked up her fifth goal of the year on a feed from junior . Sophia Kuhlthau (Cheshire, Conn.). Albertus Magnus tried to get a quick one back but Erina Ismaili's shot went high to keep the Charger lead at 1-0. Senior Kara Keiper (Peterborough, N.H.) and sophomore Lauren McKee (Littleton, N.H.) both had shots saved by Amy Stevens as Colby-Sawyer headed into the break still leading by the single score. 
  • Senior Sam Bishop (Windham, N.H.) kicked off the second half in style pushing a goal past Stevens on an assist by Kuhlthau to double the visitor lead. The Falcons tried to battle back with two shots both saved by first year Lyndsey Valletta (Macedon, N.Y.) to keep the Chargers on top. First year Ellie Smith (Plymouth, Mass.) fired back-to-back shots in the 63rd minute that was denied again by Stevens. The Falcons cut into the deficit late as Ismaili scored on a free kick in the 87th minute, but Valletta made a last second shot save to hold on for the big win for the visitors. 

Post Game Press: 
"This was a huge win we needed in conference play", said senior Sam Bishop (Windham, N.H.). "The team connected really well today and overall was one of our best games this season so far. We're looking to keep this momentum moving forward to Simmons on Wednesday!"
  
Inside the Numbers:

  • Bishop notched the first collegiate game-winner of her career in the win, while O'Connell added her team-leading fifth strike of the season. 
  • Kuhlthau led the passing effort with a pair of assists from the midfield. 
  • Valletta earned the win with six saves in the net. 
  • The Chargers held a 21-14 shot differential with a 10-7 on target advantage in the win.

The Chargers will host Simmons University with a 4:00 PM start on Wednesday September 20th.
