Chargers' Winning Streak Hits Four in 6-0 Victory Over Simmons

NEW LONDON, N.H. – The Colby-Sawyer women's soccer team picked up a their fourth-consecutive Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) win on Wednesday defeating Simmons by a 6-0 final.
 
Rapid Recap:

  • The Chargers jumped ahead early again as junior Bridget O'Connell (Peabody, Mass.) drew a whistle in the box in the eigth minute to get a penalty opportunity. O'Connell delivered to give the home team the early advantage. Just six minutes later the lead doubled as senior Kara Keiper (Peterborough, N.H.) hit the net on assists by graduate student Hannah Marquis (Weare, N.H.) and senior Sam Bishop (Windham, N.H.). The Chargers continued to knock on the door with three more shots on target, but Julia Rogers made three big saves to keep the lead at 2-0 heading into the break.
  • The Chargers went to work early in the second half as Keiper finished her second goal of the day from O'Connell to advance the lead to 3-0 in the opening 51 seconds. In the 50th minute O'Connell netted her second of the day to extend the lead further to 4-0. Colby-Sawyer continued the attack scoring again in the 65th minute as first year Riley Paul (Londonderry, Vt.) finished a header off a corner kick from Keiper. Bishop added some late insurance with a strike from first year Stella Lavertue (Claremont, N.H.) to conclude an onslaught by the Chargers offense.

"It's great to be a part of such a talented team", said first year Riley Paul (Londonderry, Vt.). "We have such great chemistry and I truly believe the sky's the limit for us. Scoring my first-collegiate goal off a corner was my goal for the season, and I hope together as a team we keep on improving."
  
Inside the Numbers:

  • O'Connell now is tied in first place in the GNAC with seven goals on the season with two more in the match today. Keiper closely follows with six goals on the season adding two more, while Bishop added her second strike of the year to go with Paul's first-collegiate goal.
  • Bishop is tied in first in the GNAC in assists after getting her fourth of the year in the win. 
  • Graduate student Alexis LeBreton (Bangor, Maine) picked up the shutout with a save to improve to 3-0 in the season. LeBreton leads the conference in save percentage (.909) and goals against average (0.32).

The Chargers will host University of Saint Joseph (Conn.) on Saturday with a 1:30 PM start.
