Chargers Continue Winning Streak with 3-2 Victory over University of Saint Joseph (Conn.)

NEW LONDON, N.H. – The Colby-Sawyer women's soccer team continued their home winning streak Saturday with an impressive 3-2 victory over the University of Saint Joseph (Conn.).  

Rapid Recap: 
  • The Chargers came into the first half running with a quick goal from senior Sam Bishop (Windham, N.H.) dribbling through the defense from a pass from junior Bridgett O'Connell (Peabody, Mass.) and finding the lower side of the back of the net, bringing the Chargers to a 1-0 lead at the three-minute mark. Bishop would continue with the pressure notching a second shot on goal, this one to be saved by the Bluejays keeper. O'Connell would join Bishop recording her first shot on net, to be saved by the keeper. Ten-minutes later O'Connell would find the back of the net, fed by a through ball from Bishop in the midfield to bring the Chargers to a 2-0 lead at the 24th minute mark. Defensively first year Lyndsey Valletta would keep the Bluejays scoreless, with four saves in the half. With three minutes left in the half O'Connell would bring the Chargers up 3-0 off a go ahead pass from junior Halle Pletzer (Barre, Vt.).
  • The first half slump for the Bluejays would ignite a series of shots, with one on target to be saved by Valletta. The Bluejays would find the back of the net off of a Corner kick header by Jenna Zup, served in from Jelly Frigo. Three minutes later Alana Picard would join her teammate with an upper 90 shot from Jenna Zup. The Chargers would substitute graduate keeper Alexis LeBreton (Bangor, Maine) who would immediately make a save to keep to score at 3-2 at the 80th minute mark. The Chargers would end the half with another shot from Bishop before notching the fifth victory in a row.
Inside the Numbers:
  • O'Connell led the offense with two goals and an assist, followed by Bishop with one goal and one assist.
  • Valletta recorded five saves with two goals against, while LeBreton recorded one save in the match.
  • The Bluejays outshot the Chargers 14-10 with 8-5 shot differential.

The Chargers will host Mount Holyoke College on Monday September 25th with a 4:00 PM start.
