Chargers Dominate Dean in 5-0 Win

FRANKLIN, Mass.  – The Colby-Sawyer field hockey team opened up Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) play in dominating fashion Friday night defeating Dean by a 5-0 final. The Chargers out shot the Bulldogs by a staggering 37-1 margin in the victory.

Rapid Recap:
  • The game started at 4:30 PM due to a lightning delay, but once the play started the Chargers immediately took control firing off numerous shots. Colby-Sawyer had nine penalty corners in the first quarter taken by first year Aili Carney (Derry, N.H.), but Dean goalie Mackenzie Fillion made all five saves on Charger shots to keep the game at 0-0 headed into the second. In the second quarter, the play stayed more of the same with senior Aleah Murph (Portland, Maine) finally getting the visitors on the board with a rocket past Fillion. The Chargers stayed on the attack after the goal with first year Ryleigh LaPorte (Leicester, Vt.) adding a score of her own on a nice pass from senior Sarah Babb (South Yarmouth, Mass.) to give the visitors a 2-0 lead headed into the break.
  • The third quarter was highlighted by great defense from the Bulldogs as Colby-Sawyer was turned away on all 12 shots on target in the period. In the fourth quarter the lead grew to three in the 48th minute as junior Sabrina Lippold (Windham, N.H.) picked up her second goal of the season following a defensive save from Madison Gilbert. In the final two minutes the Chargers tacked on two more scores starting with Babb getting her first of her senior year before first year Lexi Shute (Gilford, N.H.) picked up collegiate goal number one on a pass from sophomore Cecilia Ponzini (Windham, N.H.).
