Chargers Race Past Anna Maria 6-0

PAXTON, Mass.  – The Colby-Sawyer field hockey team picked up their seventh win of the season on Saturday defeating Anna Maria by a 6-0 final. 

Rapid Recap:
  • The Chargers quickly got to work offensively taking three quick shots on net in the first nine minutes. At the 9:25 mark the Colby-Sawyer hit the back of the cage as sophomore Cecilia Ponzini (Windham, N.H.) found senior Aleah Murph (Portland, Maine) for the score to give the visitors a 1-0 lead heading into the break. In the second quarter the lead doubled as Ponzini found first year Abby Olden (Belchertown, Mass.) for her first collegiate goal 19:58 into the game. The first half continued with the Chargers on the attack getting a third score in the 28th minute as junior Alyssa Slocum (Windsor, Vt.) finished a third assist by Ponzini as we headed to the break.
  • In the second half Colby-Sawyer remained focused firing off multiple shots before in the 40th minute getting a fourth as first year Aubrey Fischer (Weare, N.H.) finished a goal from junior Courtney Larson (Auburn, Maine) to keep the Chargers on top 4-0 headed into the fourth. The Chargers added another as A. Fischer snuck another one into the cage on a fourth assist by Ponzini in the 47th minute. First year Ryleigh LaPorte (Leicester, Vt.) ended the scoring in the 50th minute with her fourth of the year to close the 6-0 win for the Chargers.

"We came out with great intensity and kept it to the end", said sophomore Cecilia Ponzini (Windham, N.H.). "Everyone put in one-hundred percent and we all worked well together."

Inside The Numbers: 
  • Ponzini dished out a career-best four assists in the win. Cecilia ranks fifth in the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) in total assists (6).
  • Murph tallied her fourth goal of the year and 16th of her career to move her into 8th place in goals all-time in program history. 
  • A. Fischer registered her first two goals in her career, while Olden added her first goal in the win. Slocum and LaPorte rounded out the scoring for the visitors. 
  • Junior Carly Bernard (Swanze, N.H.) picked up her seventh win of the year going 30 minutes. First year Quinlyn Moll (Medford, N.J.) and first year Eli Connor (Henniker, N.H.) each added 15 minutes of game action. 
  • The Chargers out shot the AMCATS 27-0 with 21 shots on target.

The Chargers will travel to Saint Joseph's (Maine) on Wednesday with a 5:00 PM start time.
