STANDISH, Maine  – The Colby-Sawyer field hockey team continued its winning ways in the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) on Wednesday defeating Saint Joseph's (Maine) by a 2-0 final.

Rapid Recap:
  • The Chargers had the first chance offensively as first year Ryleigh LaPorte (Leicester, Vt.) in the 7th minute getting a shot off a corner that was stopped by Kassidy Collins. Senior Aleah Murph (Portland, Maine) and junior Sabrina Lippold (Windham, N.H.) both added the other shots in the quarter, but were both off target. In the second quarter sophomore Taylor Gaudette (North Conway, N.H.) and junior Courtney Larson (Auburn, Maine) both had close chances that were denied by Collins. In the 24th minute the visitors finally jumped ahead as Larson hit the back of the cage on a find from Murph to take the 1-0 lead into the break.
  • In the second half the Monks had their first close chance hitting the post in the 36th minute off the stick of Sadie Tirrell, but junior Carly Bernard (Swanze, N.H.) stayed strong and pushed it away. LaPorte doubled the lead in the 43rd minute on a rocket high into the netting to give the Chargers a 2-0 lead. In the fourth quarter first year Abby Olden (Belchertown, Mass.) fired back-to-back shots that were saved, but the Monks offense fell silent as the Chargers picked up the 2-0 win.
