PLYMOUTH, N.H. – The Colby-Sawyer field hockey team dropped their second game of the year on Wednesday falling to Plymouth State University in double overtime by a 3-2 final.
Rapid Recap:
- The Chargers and Panthers had an exciting first quarter battling back and forth in the midfield with neither team taking advantage. Junior Courtney Larson (Auburn, Maine) had the first chance but the Panther net-minder Kayla Antonucci made a big stop. The Panthers only took one shot in the first but it was wide of the mark. In the second quarter the home team took advantage scoring back-to-back goals in less than a minute to get ahead 2-0. The first goal came from Alessia Salzillo off a deflection followed by a quick goal by Mackenzie Labrie in transition. The Chargers tried to battle back as sophomore Taylor Gaudette (North Conway, N.H.) fired a last second shot, but Antonucci stopped the shot again to lead 2-0 headed into the break.
- Colby-Sawyer bounced back in the 35th minute as senior Aleah Murph (Portland, Maine) used her rocket shot to get past the keeper on an assist by junior Alyssa Slocum (Windsor, Vt.). The Chargers stayed the aggressors getting two more looks that were denied as we headed to the fourth quarter. In the final quarter the Chargers knotted things back up as Murph found junior Sabrina Lippold (Windham, N.H.) who ripped a shot past the keeper to bring the score to 2-2. The Panthers had a few chances late, but junior Carly Bernard (Swanze, N.H.) turned them away to keep the game tied headed to overtime.
- The Chargers continued its pressure in the first overtime period getting four shots on target, but Antonucci kept the Panthers in the game with four clutch saves. In the second overtime Plymouth State found the winner getting a weird bounce into the back of the cage from Taylor Healey to end the game.
