Box Score 2 NEWTON, Mass. - The Colby-Sawyer women's volleyball team split in their Saturday tri-match in Newton defeating Elms by a 3-0 (25-19, 25-17, 25-21) final before losing to Lasell by a 3-0 (25-15, 25-15, 25-11) final.
Rapid Recap (Elms):
- The Chargers trailed the Blazers by a 10-6 margin off of errors before three kills by junior Ally Majenski (Marshfield, Mass.) sparked a 5-1 run to knot the game at 11-11. Colby-Sawyer slowly took the lead before five-consecutive points by the Chargers grew the lead to 22-15. Majenski finished off the set with an ace to win 25-19.
- The Chargers stormed ahead in the second set leading early by a 9-1 margin on kills by Majenski, first year Delaney Skourtis (Tilton, N.H.), first year Haley Hathorn (Hillsboro, N.H.) and junior Katie Mollberg (Naples, Fla.). Another huge 10-3 advantage put the Chargers over the top to close it out at 25-17 with a kill by Mollberg.
- In the third set the Blazers jumped ahead by a 8-6 margin, but senior Abby Williams (Brentwood, N.H.) netted a kill to kickstart the counter run to get the Chargers in front. Four more kills for Majenski saw the set tied at 21-21, but the Chargers powered through with five-straight to end the match in a Colby-Sawyer win.
Inside the Numbers:
- Majenski led the way offensively with 12 kills at a .500 kill percentage, while Mollberg followed with six.
- Patnode led the passing in the match with 25 assists to go with four aces and five digs.
- Junior Audra Fontes (Fresno, Calif.) led the defense with 11 digs.
Rapid Recap (Lasell):
- In the first set the Chargers trailed early 6-2. Hathorn stopped the run with a kill and service ace to cut the deficit to two points. A kill by Skourtis added a kill to start a quick run to tie the match at 9-9. The Lasers responded in a big way with a 13-3 run to hold a 22-12 lead and eventually win by a 25-15 set one win.
- The second set saw more of the same as Lasell held a 14-5 lead before the Chargers countered with three-straight points on a kill from Majenski (Marshfield, and two aces from Patnode. The lead grew to 20-10, but after a 4-1 run with kills by Mollberg and Williams cut the lead to 21-14, but the Lasers ended the set 25-15.
- Lasell jumped into a 6-1 lead early, but the Chargers battled back to cut the deficit to just three points on an ace by first year Bree Bacon (Brookline, Mass.) and a kill by Mollberg. Majenski added two more kills by the Lasers led by a 18-9 margin, before winning the set 25-11.
Inside the Numbers:
- Mollberg, Majenski and Skourtis led the offense with three kills each.
- Patnode led the passing in the match with nine assists.
- Fontes led the defense with 10 digs.
