NEW LONDON, N.H. – The Colby-Sawyer field hockey team picked up their sixth win of 2023 on Saturday defeating Thomas College of Maine by a 2-1 final.
Rapid Recap:
- The Chargers dominated the early going with shots coming from junior Alyssa Slocum (Windsor, Vt.), junior Courtney Larson (Auburn, Maine) and sophomore Taylor Gaudette (North Conway, N.H.) which were all turned away by Brennan Pinto. Colby-Sawyer had one final chance in the 13th minute but Gaudette's shot was again turned away headed into the second quarter. In the second quarter first year Mikayla Thornton (Lebanon, N.H.) had a huge opportnity off a corner but a big stop by Pinto kept the game scoreless. In the 28th minute the Chargers took the lead as sophomore Cecilia Ponzini (Windham, N.H.) launched a shot, but first year Kylie Walden (Bellingham, Mass.) finished the rebound to give the home team a 1-0 lead as we headed to the break.
- In the second half the momentum shifted for the Terriers taking quick shots stopped by junior Carly Bernard (Swanze, N.H.). In the 37th minute Bernard made a highlight play jumping up and making a stick save on a shot by Kara Richards before a defensive save by senior Aleah Murph (Portland, Maine) kept the Chargers in front 1-0 headed to the fourth quarter. In the fourth the Terriers got the equalizer in 46th minute as Julia Reny finished a goal from Leah Knight. In the 56th minute the Chargers jumped back in front as Gaudette pushed a shot past the diving keeper from Murph to put Colby-Sawyer on top for good.

- Bernard picks up her sixth win of the season making six saves in the cage.
- Gaudette registered her third goal of the year, while Walden picked up her first goal of her career.
- Murph picked up her team-leading third assist in the win.

The Chargers will travel to Plymouth State University on Wednesday in a non-conference game with a 3:00 PM start.
