Chargers Come Up Short Against Johnson & Wales

NEW LONDON, N.H.  – The Colby-Sawyer field hockey dropped their first contest of the 2023 season to Johnson & Wales by a 1-0 final.

Rapid Recap:
  • The Chargers and Wildcats battled to a zero shot first quarter with possession in favor of Johnson & Wales. In the second quarter the Wildcats kept the attack strong. Junior Carly Bernard (Swanze, N.H.) made two key saves down the stretch while senior Aleah Murph (Portland, Maine) made a defensive save. 
  • Johnson & Wales continued to stay on the offensive in the third quarter finally breaking through as Izzy Ward pushed a goal past Bernard on a pass by Mackenzie Wolf. The first shot for the Chargers came by first year Aubrey Fischer (Weare, N.H.) in the 39th minute, but it went wide. Another big save by Bernard kept the game at 1-0 headed into the fourth quarter. The Chargers only managed one shot on goal all day as junior Sabrina Lippold (Windham, N.H.) lifted a shot in the 45th minute, but Sophia Brea slapped it away. The Chargers had one final chance but the penalty corner would not be successful as the Wildcats held on for the 1-0 win. 
Inside The Numbers: 
  • Bernard registered six saves in the cage in the first loss of her career. 
  • Murph tabbed her 10th collegiate defensive save in the loss. 
  • The Wildcats out shot the Chargers 12-2 with a 8-1 on target differential.

The Chargers will stay home to host New England College on Wednesday September 20th with a 3:30 PM start.
