Chargers Fall in Three Sets to Wentworth Institute of Technology

BOSTON, Mass. - The Colby-Sawyer women's volleyball team dropped another game on Wednesday night losing to Wentworth Institute of Technology by a 3-0 (25-18, 25-15, 25-14) final. 

Rapid Recap:

  • Junior Brooke Patnode (Weare, N.H.) started off the match with a service ace joined later by a kill by junior Ally Majenski (Marshfield, Mass.) to open the set leading 3-0. The Leopards responded with five-straight points to take the lead. Another 3-0 Charger run sparked by a kill by first year Delaney Skourtis (Tilton, N.H.) put the visitors back in the lead by a 8-7 margin. Wentworth countered with a 8-3 run to take control back in the set stopped by a kill by Majenski. Junior Katie Mollberg (Naples, Fla.), senior Abby Williams (Brentwood, N.H.) and Patnode each added a kill, but CSC fell in set one 25-18.
  • The Leopards stormed ahead 8-3 in the second set. The home team continued on the attack using a 6-1 run to lead 15-6 stopped by a Majenski kill. The Chargers battled back with a 5-0 run with a kill by Mollberg and an ace by first year Haley Hathorn (Hillsboro, N.H.). The Chargers got to within 20-14, but the Leopards closed it out winning 25-15. 
  • Hathorn started the third set with a kill to give Colby-Sawyer a 2-0 lead early on. The Leopards followed with seven out of the next 10 points to take the lead back. A 5-1 counter by the Chargers with two kills by Skourtis and one of each by Mollberg and Majenski pushed the Chargers back in front by a 10-8. Wentworth closed things out with a 17-4 run to end the match. 

Inside the Numbers:

  • Majenski led the offense with eight kills on a .300 kill percentage with two assist and a dig. Mollberg tallied seven kills and three digs. Skourtis added four kills and seven digs. 
  • Patnode led the passing with 18 assists to go with four digs and two kills. 
  • Defensively junior Olivia DeShane (Grand Rapids, Mich.) had eight digs to lead the way. 

Up Next:
The Chargers will host Fitchburg State University on Thursday with a 6:00 PM start.
