Chargers Exit GNAC Quarterfinals to Albertus Magnus

NEW HAVEN, Conn. – The Colby-Sawyer women's basketball team fell to Albertus Magnus College on Tuesday in the quarterfinals of the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Tournament by a 75-60 final score.

Rapid Recap: 
  • The Falcons took a 4-0 advantage after Jakara Leach-Murray made a good jumper to start the first quarter of the game. Sophomore Marissa Holt (Alfred, Maine) completed both of her free throws after getting fouled by Caitlyn Scott to put the Chargers on the scoreboard. Albertus Magnus would then make back-to-back three pointers to take a 10-2 led. Sophomore Megan Molettieri (Pelham, N.H.) responded by knocking down a triple making it 10-5. After being fouled by Diamond White, sophomore Gabby Lucertini (Brandford, Conn.) made one free throw followed by a jump shot from Holt to put the score at 12-8. First year Elyza Mitchell (Spofford, N.H.) got her first points of the game after making a good jumper narrowing the Falcons led to three points. Albertus Magnus grew their advantage back to six points after Murray-Leach finished both of her free throws. Mitchell added another bucket followed by a made jump shot from senior Emily Parent (Oakland, Maine) to make it 18-16. Scott hit two three pointers to give the Falcons a 24-16 led at the end of the quarter.
  • Molettieri started the second quarter by making a layup after stealing the ball from Scott to make it 24-18. Holt closed the Falcons advantage to five points after finishing a layup at the 7:26 mark. Albertus Magnus would go on a 16-0 run to end the second quarter with a 46-24 led heading into halftime.  
  • Sophomore Courtney Brewster (Castleton, Vt.) completed both free throws to begin the scoring in the third quarter for the Chargers. Mitchell followed with a layup to make it 48-28. Midway through the quarter, the Falcons generated a 10-0 run to extend their advantage 62-31. Mitchell's good free throws and a layup by Brewster disrupted the Falcons attack but Albertus Magnus would hold a 27-point advantage to end the quarter.
  • Brewster got the Chargers offensive going after making a layup and jumper to kickstart the fourth quarter. At the 4:39 mark, Lucertini drained a three-ball putting the score at 69-46. After the Chargers completed a couple free throw attempts, Parent knocked down a pair of triples to make it 75-57. Senior Abby Hamlin (Chesterfield, N.H.) would finish a free throw and bucket with seconds remaining, but the Falcons would advance to the semifinals by a 75-60 final score.  
Stats & Figures:
  • Mitchell led the Chargers in scoring with 12 points (4-7 FG, 4-4 FT) to go along with seven rebounds and an assist. Lucertini ended the game with 11 points (3-3 FG, 2-2 3-FG, 3-4 FT) to go along with six rebounds, an assist, a pair of steals. Parent (3-9 FG, 2-8 3-FG, 2-2 FT) and Brewster (3-4 FG, 4-5 FT) each dropped 10 points apiece combining for 10 rebounds.
  • Scott scored 22 points (7-14 FG, 3-5 3-FG, 5-6 FT) for the Falcons along with five rebounds, six assists, and three steals.
  • The Falcons outshot the Chargers 44.6% to 35.8% from the field while the Colby-Sawyer outrebounded Albertus Magnus by a 37-31 margin.
