Chargers Wrap Up Weekend at Harvard Carnival

WATERVILLE VALLEY, N.H. – The Colby-Sawyer men's alpine skiing team competed in the Harvard Carnival this weekend at Waterville Valley Resort. Day one of competition proved to be challenging for the racers due to bumpy course conditions. On Saturday however, conditions were excellent for the slalom races.

Rapid Recap:
  • Junior Chesley Smith (Stowe, Vt.) had the best first run for the Chargers in the slalom race finishing with a time of 44.20, but was unable to qualify the second run.
  • Right behind him was first-year Jackson Musial (Bartlett, N.H.) completing his first run with a 44.40 effort.

Skier Spotlight:
"Difficult warm conditions on Friday made finishing the first run a commendable achievement," said senior Finn Husband (Elks Rapid, Mich.). "Saturday's slalom on the other hand turned into a great day for skiing. Unfortunately, the cards didn't fall right for either the men or women. Next week will be a great opportunity for the team to show what we're made of at Jiminy Peak."

Coaches Corner:
"Yesterday was brutal," said head coach Andy Locke. "We wound up only running 30 men and 30 women in the afternoon. The course was rough and there was virtually no opportunity to move up. Today was a different story. Great conditions and fast courses for first run.  The entire team skied very well, and moved up from their start positions, we just didn't get anyone into the top 60. Very proud of the team effort to lay it out there and ski fast."

Up Next:
The Chargers will travel to Hancock, Massachusetts on Friday, February 17th to compete in the Williams College Carnival.
