Chargers Dominant in 5-0 Victory Over Mitchell

NEW LONDON, Conn. - The Colby-Sawyer women's soccer team dominated Mitchell on Saturday with a 5-0 victory. 

Rapid Recap:
  • The Chargers applied pressure early to the Mariners with two quick shots from junior Bridget O'Connell (Peabody, Mass.) and a pair of shots from senior Kara Keiper (Peterborough, N.H.). The Chargers would start their offensive teaer in the 12th minute with a goal from O'Connell which was fed from sophomore Lauren McKee (Littleton, N.H.). Two minutes later O'Connell would notch her second goal from a through ball from senior Sam Bishop (Windham, N.H.) to put the Chargers up 2-0 15 minutes into the match. The Chargers kept the shots flying at the Mariners keeper, taking seven shots highlighted by a shot from graduate student Hannah Marquis (Weare, N.H). In the 33rd minute O'Connell would return the favor to Bishop feeding her a ball for a beautifully curving upper 90 goal to put the Chargers up 3-0. The Chargers would fire five more shots before the half came to a close. 
  • The Chargers came out of the half hungry for more and continuing the fire shots and apply pressure on the Mariners back line. In the 69th minute O'Connell would seal her position as leading scorer in the GNAC with a goal fed from Marquis, putting the Chargers up 4-0 with 20 minutes left in regulation. Mitchell would continue to fight for possession within the midfield but the Chargers would continue to maintain the pressure with four more shots before first year Agata Markuns (Boxford, Mass.) finalized the match with goal number 5 for the Chargers in the 78th minute.

"It was an amazing day to have both my first collegiate start and also score my first collegiate goal." First year Agata Markuns (Boxford, Mass.) said. "The team is feeling very positive and this was thhe bounce back we needed to get back on our winning streak!"

Inside the Numbers: 
  • O'Connell led the offense with 3 goals and 1 assist on the afternoon, sealing her place as leading scorer in the conference and bringing her just 3 goals shy of the program record for goals within a season. 
  • All three keepers saw action within the match today with graduate student Alexis LeBreton (Bangor, Maine.) earning the win. 
  • The Chargers held a 36-1 shot differential with a 18-0 on target advantage.
