NEW LONDON, N.H. – The Colby-Sawyer field hockey team closed out their regular season home games in style with a 5-1 win over Albertus Magnus.
Rapid Recap:
- First year Aubrey Fischer (Weare, N.H.) started off the chances in the game at the in the fourth minute with a shot on target that was denied by Samantha Helwig. The Falcons countered with a chance in the 6th minute as Kayla Clark fired a shot that was turned away by junior Carly Bernard (Swanze, N.H.). In the second quarter Colby-Sawyer finally got on the board as senior Aleah Murph (Portland Maine) found the back of the net on assists by first year Ryleigh LaPorte (Leicester, Vt.) and sophomore Taylor Gaudette (North Conway, N.H.). The Chargers stayed on the attack but Helwig would make three more saves to keep the game 1-0 headed into the break.
- In the second half first year Abby Olden (Belchertown, Mass.) doubled the lead stealing a ball from the Falcons and beating Helwig. The lead ballooned to three as LaPorte scored a tap in from Murph and Olden in the 40th minute. The Falcons added a score two minutes later as Paige Scheid passed a ball across the crease to Clark who finished the goal. In the fourth quarter the Chargers kept on the attack as A. Fischer fired home the fourth goal on an assist by sophomore Cecilia Ponzini (Windham, N.H.) in the 47th minute. Colby-Sawyer maintained possession before ending the game with another Olden score with 30 seconds remaining to secure the win.

Abby Olden (Belchertown, Mass.). "Playing together and making sure we started with intensity is important for our upcoming playoff run and we held that intensity today."
Inside The Numbers:
- Olden led the scoring with a career-best five point performance on two goals and an assist.
- Murph and LaPorte each tallied a goal and an assist, while A. Fischer added the other goal.
- Bernard picked up her 11th win of the season stopping a pair of shots.
- The Chargers currently are favored to land in the third spot in the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) playoff bracket.
