Chargers Clinch #3 Seed in GNAC Playoffs with Rout of Elms

CHICOPEE, Mass.  – The Colby-Sawyer field hockey team closed the regular season on Wednesday defeating Elms by a 8-0 final.

Rapid Recap:
  • The Chargers came out shooting getting four shots in the first six minutes. In the tail end of the 6th minute Colby-Sawyer jumped in front as first year Ryleigh LaPorte (Leicester, Vt.) finished home a strike from sophomore Cecilia Ponzini (Windham, N.H.). The Chargers tried to double the score in the final minutes but Kaitlyn Lynes made four more saves to keep it at 1-0 going to the second quarter. In the second the Chargers offense erupted starting with another LaPorte goal from first year Aubrey Fischer (Weare, N.H.) in the 16th minute. Senior Aleah Murph (Portland, Maine) was next with a goal from Ponzini. A. Fischer followed with two more goals to close the first half scoring on assists by Murph and junior Courtney Larson (Auburn, Maine). 
  • The second half saw more of the same with a hat-trick goal by A. Fischer in the 31st minute, a strike by first year Abby Olden (Belchertown, Mass.) in the 39th minute and the final goal by Larson in the 47th minute. First year Quinlyn Moll (Medford, N.J.) played the second half in the cage without a shot faced.
Post-Game Press: 
"I'm so proud of how everyone played today", said first year Aubrey Fischer (Weare, N.H.). "We all worked well together, our communication and passing continue to get better with every game. This was a great end to our regular season and definitely gives us a lot of confidence going into Saturdays home playoff game against River."

Inside The Numbers: 
  • A. Fischer had a career-best seven points in the win with three goals and an assist. 
  • LaPorte tallied two goals, while Murph and Larson each added a goal and an assist. 
  • Ponzini led the passing effort with two more assists. 
  • Junior Carly Bernard (Swanze, N.H.) picked up her 12th win of the season.
Up Next:  
The Chargers earned the #3 seed in the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) playoffs and will host Rivier on Saturday with a 1:00 PM start.
