Murph Shines on Senior Day for the Chargers

NEW LONDON, N.H.  – The Colby-Sawyer field hockey team soared to victory on Saturday afternoon 3-1 over the University of Saint Joseph. 

Rapid Recap:
  • The Chargers saw the first two opportunities to score as sophomore Cecilia Ponzini would fire a shot just wide, and first year Aubrey Fischer (Weare, N.H.) would follow missing just wide as well. The second quarter would kick start the offensive push for the Chargers as first year Ryleigh LaPorte (Leicester, Vt.) would find the back of the goal off of a feed from junior Courtney Larson (Auburn, Maine.). Minutes later senior Aleah Murph would strike a solo putting the Chargers up 2-0. Throughout the remainder of the first half the Chargers would fire four more shots on target to be turned away by the goalie.
  • The Chargers would come out of half-time firing on all cylinders, with Murph recording the first shot on goal, followed by a shot from Larson which missed just wide. Murph would rip a shot off of a feed from first year Abby Olden (Belchertown, Mass.) to put the Chargers up 3-0. Sophomore Sabrina Lippold (Windham, N.H.) would fire a shot at the Bluejays keeper but be turned away before the quarter would come to a close. The Bluejays would earn their first offensive opportunity within the fourth quarter, earning a penalty stroke and capitalizing on the opportunity. MacKenzie Fairfax would beat the Chargers goalie junior Carly Bernard (Swanze, N.H.) to make the score 3-1 in favor of the Chargers. The home team would finish out the game with a pair of penalty corners taken by senior Sarah Babb (South Yarmouth, Mass.).
Post-Game Press: 
"It's always great to win on senior day and i am so happy with how we played,said senior Aleah Murph (Portland, Maine). "We played together with intensity and communication. we also had fun today and that's what we need heading into next week!"

Inside The Numbers: 
  • Murph led the scoring notching two goals, while LaPorte rounded out the scoring adding one goal on the afternoon.
  • Larson and Olden controlled the passing adding an assist each.
  • Bernard earned the win in 45 minutes of goalkeeping, while first year Quinlyn Moll (Medford, N.J.) recorded 15 minutes with one save and one goal against.
  • The Chargers outshot the Bluejays 18-1 with a 12-1 on target advantage.
  • The Chargers move into the fourth playoff position and will look to hold the home field advantage.
