O'Connell's Record Day Brings Victory Over Norwich

NEW LONDON, N.H. - The Colby-Sawyer women's soccer team dominated Norwich on Wednesday afternoon 3-0 behind junior Bridget O'Connell's record breaking game.

Rapid Recap:
  • The Cadets earned the first possession getting a shot off from Bella Roy which was saved easily by graduate student Alexis LeBreton (Bangor, Maine). The save kick started the Chargers offense, a push in pace in the midfield would lead to an upper 90 shot from senior Kara Keiper (Peterborough, N.H.) which would be turned away by the Cadets keeper but earn the Chargers a corner kick. First year Riley Paul (Londonderry, Vt.) would get a head on the cross but quick feet from Rebecca Karis would keep the score even at 0. Three minutes later senior Sam Bishop (Windham, N.H.) would get the first score on the board off of a pass from Paul. The Chargers would maintain pressure on the keeper with shots from sophomore Lauren McKee (Littleton, N.H.), two from Keiper, and junior Bridget O'Connell (Peabody, Mass.). O'Connell would have her breakthrough goal started by a junior Halle Pletzer (Barre, Vt.) quick touch to Bishop who fed a through ball to O'Connell to put the Chargers up 2-0.
  • O'Connell would continue to fill the stats with shots on net opening the second half as she shot four quick shots for the Chargers. Keiper would get an offensive opportunity in the 75th minute with a quick touch shot but was rejected by Karis. In the 80th minute O'Connell would get a fast break opportunity and first be rejected by the keeper, the rebound would stay in play and a quick side touch and upper 90 shot would put O'Connell in the record books. The second goal of the match would place O'Connell at the top of the individual single season goal record with 18 goals and single season point total with 40 points so far on the season.
