Game Recap: Field Hockey |

Chargers Handle Pride 3-0

NEW LONDON, N.H.  – The Colby-Sawyer field hockey team claimed redemption on Wednesday afternoon beating the Regis Pride 3-0.

Rapid Recap:
  • The Chargers saw the first two opportunities to score as junior Sabrina Lippold (Windham, N.H.) found a shot off of a corner served by classmate Courtney Larson (Auburn, Maine.) which would be blocked by the defense. Larson would later find a shot herself to be rejected by the goalie. Less than two minutes later Larson would put the Chargers up 1-0 off of a pass from sophomore Taylor Gaudette (North Conway, N.H.). The Chargers would earn two more penalty corners to end the first quarter. The Chargers struck early in the second quarter with first year Abby Olden (Belchertown, Mass.) scoring off of a service from senior Sarah Babb (South Yarmouth, Mass.). The Chargers would keep their feet on the gas firing three more shots in the quarter and earning four penalty corners. The Pride would find their first scoring opportunity late in the second quarter with a shot by Anna Miele-DeFelice which would be saved by senior Aleah Murph (Portland, Maine). The defensive save for the senior puts her in the record books with the single season record for defensive saves. 
  • The second half started quickly for the Chargers firing two quick shots one from Larson which would be saved by the goalie and one just wide from Lippold. The Chargers would early a penalty shot in the 41st minute of the game which was taken by Murph and was just wide. Olden would look to tally her second score of the afternoon but an impressive save from the goalie would keep the score at 2-0. At the end of the third quarter the Chargers would earn another penalty opportunity to be taken by sophomore Claire Stroshine (Keene, N.H.). Stroshine would score on the stroke notching her first collegiate score and putting the Chargers up 3-0. The Pride would see one last scoring opportunity off of a penalty corner early in the fourth quarter to be turned away by junior Carly Bernard (Swanze, N.H.).

Inside The Numbers: 
  • Larson, Olden and Stroshine each scored a goal for the squad, followed by Babb and Gaudette notching assists. 
  • Defensively Murph recorded a defensive save to put her name in the record books while Bernard notched one save in the shutout. 
  • The Chargers held the shot advantage 25-4 with a 16-2 on target advantage. 
  • The Chargers are tied for fifth in the GNAC standing looking to creep their way into fourth to secure a home playoff game.
