Chargers Shut Down by Bates College

LEWISTON, Maine - The Colby-Sawyer women's soccer team fell on Sunday to Bates College by a 3-0 final. 

Rapid Recap:
  • The Chargers had got off one of their two shots on the day in the 12th minutes as junior Bridget O'Connell (Peabody, Mass.) took a shot that hooked wide. The Bobcats stayed in control of the match in the first half taking five shots in the first half, but first year Lyndsey Valletta (Macedon, N.Y.) stayed steady making the saves. Another key save in the 42nd minute kept the game at 0-0 headed into the second half. 
  • Bates stayed in control finally getting a score in the 52nd minute as Lily Houser finished a goal by Izzy Lussier. The Bobcats added the second goal in the 64th minute as Olivia Becker finished another pass by Lussier. First year Rylee Suchenicz (South Hadley, Mass.) checked in for relief allowing a final goal. 
Inside the Numbers: 
  • O'Connell and senior Kara Keiper (Peterborough, N.H.) each tallied a shot in the loss.
  • Valletta stopped a career-high nine shots while allowing the two goals, while Suchenicz made a single save in the loss.
  • The Chargers fell to fifth place in the GNAC playoff race with 25 points. Colby-Sawyer trails Johnson & Wales (36), Emmanuel (33), Lasell (26) and University of Saint Joseph (Conn.) (26) with three games to play in conference play.

The Chargers will host Norwich on Wednesday with a 3:30 PM start.
