Chargers Stunned by Rivier 4-3

NEW LONDON, N.H.  – The Colby-Sawyer field hockey team were met by another set back on Tuesday falling to Rivier by a 4-3 final.

Rapid Recap:
  • The Chargers had the first two chances as senior Aleah Murph (Portland, Maine) and first year Aubrey Fisher (Weare, N.H.) both had shots which were saved by the Raiders keeper. The Raiders countered with a shot from Sydney Spenard that junior Carly Bernard (Swanze, N.H.) rejected. The Chargers would strike first in the first half with a second quarter goal from junior Courtney Larson (Auburn, Maine) fed from sophomore Cecilia Ponzini (Windham, N.H.). Eight minutes later first year Ryleigh LaPorte (Leicester, Vt.) would put the Chargers up 2-0 with transition snipe.
  • In the second half the momentum switched as the Raiders netted back-to-back goals in the first nine minutes to even the score. Reilly Swislosky scored on an assist by Hailey Morse for the first goal before Madison Streeter added the second. The biggest moment of the game came in the 40th minute as Colby-Sawyer was accessed a 10-minute yellow card forcing them to play down for the duration. Larson put the Chargers back in front just a minute after the card with a second chance goal to put the home team back in front. The Raiders continued to battle back with a goal to conclude the third quarter as Swislosky beat Bernard to even the game. In the fourth quarter senior Carly Ayotte (Swanzey, N.H.) made a defensive save just 47 seconds into the quarter, but Swislosky kept the stick down to secure the hat trick and to give the visitors the 4-3 lead. Rivier played it safe holding the lead until the final whistle.
