NEW LONDON, N.H. – The Colby-Sawyer alpine skiing team is eager for the 2022-23 season to be underway as they look to build from the previous year.
RACING FORWARD
The Chargers will look forward to racing again after a successful 2021-2022 racing season.
"I am super excited about this team," said head coach Andy Locke. "We got a nice group of seniors and a good group of newcomers, so I am ready to see this group come together and create a good team environment. Athletically I am really looking forward to seeing this group perform. Slalom skiing was outstanding and top notch off the bat, and I've just seen some really good stuff so far."
CHARGERS IN COLORADO
"The mountains we skied were Breckinridge, Keystone, and Loveland Pass," said junior Jared Marshall. "We began our trip with a session of free skiing on Saturday, November 19 (the same day we left New London at 1:50am). We then ventured over to Keystone Resort for a day of Slalom, and a day of GS free skiing. Our first official in-gate training session was at Loveland Pass on November 21st. At Loveland, the training venue is separate from where the public skiing takes place. This meant that the Chargers were ripping around the same venue as our East-coast competition from Boston College, Middlebury, Bates, Colby, and Harvard.
After a successful first Slalom session, the team from Colby-Sawyer alpine spent the next two days training full-length Giant Slalom. The training camp was concluded with one final Slalom session at Loveland Pass before the Chargers made their way eastbound and down. The highlight of the trip was the Thanksgiving dinner that was generously put on by the parents of Maren Elvidge '26 and Caity Regrut '23. Huge shouts to Loveland Ski Club for hosting our Colby-Sawyer alpine athletes at one of the best venues in the country for early season training access, thank you."
THE CAPTAINS
Seniors Finn Husband (Elk Rapids, Mich.) and Caity Regrut (Telluride, Colo.) will lead the team as captains for the 2022-23 season.
"Finn is a really good solid leader for the team. I think the team respects him and he does a nice job communicating what is necessary. Caity has done a fantastic job as the quiet leader of the team and is also solid, so the team is in really good hands with them as captains," said Locke.
Husband is a biology pre-med major who earned the recognition of captain on his second team at Colby-Sawyer.
"We are really looking forward to the season", said Husband. "It always gets exciting when the snow starts falling, which hasn't happened yet, but I am still really excited to go over to the hill or the mountain. Everyone is really looking forward to this year, we have a bunch of first years coming in that will bring a high-level of intensity."
Regrut is an exercise science major who has stepped into her leadership role for the ski team.
"My team expectations are to have a great January camp and have that on snow experience," said senior Regrut. "Once we do that we can get back into the gates and get ready for that first carnival at Bates College. I'm excited to also have Andy back this year because having consistency as a team will really help build the program and Andy's style on hill really caters to each student-athlete which helps us get better as a whole."
NEW ADDITIONS
Coach Locke adds four first years to the men's roster and three first years to the women's roster who will look to help the Chargers in the upcoming season.
