Chargers Erupt for Five Second Half Goals in Comeback Victory Over Lasell University

NEW LONDON, N.H. – The Colby-Sawyer Chargers field hockey team stayed undefeated in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) on Saturday defeating Lasell University by a 5-3 final.

Rapid Recap:
  • After a back and forth first quarter the Lasers got on the board first finding Sage Dodier in the 17th minute to take an early. The Chargers got their first big opportunity in the 20th minute as junior Aleah Murph (Portland, Maine) was stopped shot on a penalty stroke attempt. Colby-Sawyer would get a last opportunity but the shot went wide to head into halftime trailing 1-0.
  • In the second half the offense came alive as senior Calie Sorenson (Sandwich, Mass.) tapped home a goal from senior Aoife Daly (Harwich, Mass.) in the 31st minute. After a senior Lauren Wilkinson (Lynn, Mass.) save the Chargers got running again with Daly scoring this time from Sorenson to gain the lead at 2-1. Lasell responded in the 39th minute as Kaitlin Bedell scored on a pass from Lily Stark. With the game tied at 2-2 the Chargers responded again as Murph launched home a corner finish on an assist by first year Taylor Gaudette (North Conway, N.H.) to give the home team a 3-2 lead. The scoring did not stop in the third quarter as Sorenson scored her second goal of the day assisted by Daly once again. The Lasers fired off three more shots as the third quarter ended, but Wilkinson stayed strong to hold the 4-2 lead.
  • The Lasers cut the deficit to just a single score in the 54th minute as Sheridan Blaha scored from Bedell. Three minutes later the Chargers added the security as Gaudette finished a pass from Daly to give Colby-Sawyer a much needed 5-3 lead. Lasell would get one last shot on target, but it hit the post as time expired.
Player Spotlight:

"I am just extremely proud of this team", said senior Calie Sorenson (Sandwich, Mass.). "We didn't sit back at all after they scored and we just played with that grit that we have followed all season."
