NEW LONDON, N.H. - The Colby Sawyer women's soccer team fell in their Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) match againt Albertus Magnus on Saturday afternoon in a close 2-0 loss. The Chargers are now 1-1 in conference play and are 2-4-1 in their season.
Rapid Recap:
- In the first half, the Chargers and Falcons battled back and forth, aiming to be the first team to light up the scoreboard. Powerful shots came from junior Sam Bishop (Windham, N.H.), and senior Hannah Marquis (Weare, N.H.) within the first 10 minutes of play.
- Alexis LeBreton (Bangor, ME), the senior goalkeeper for the Chargers, kept the Falcons at bay until the 36th minute when the Falcons broke through with a goal from Haley Andrews assisted by Keegan Riccio to give Albertus Magnus the 1-0 advanatge.
- Fired up for the second half, the Chargers came out hot attempting to even the score. Sophomore Bridget O'Connell (Peabody, Mass.) and first-year Lauren Ardolino (Milford, CT) had a collective four shots on goal, keeping the Falcons' goalkeeper on her toes.
- The Chargers pushed forth, passing, shooting, and hustling to the ball in order to stand their ground on their home turf. In the 63rd minute of the half, the Falcons steered the scoreline in their favor when Andrews found Erina Ismaili who put the ball in the back of the net to extend the led 2-0.
Stats & Figures:
- O'Connell, Marquis, and senior Grace Walsh (Marstons Mills, Mass.) each attempted four shots in the match.
- LeBreton made four saves and allowed two goals after playing the full ninety minutes in net.
- Chargers outshot the Falcons 21-9 with an 11-6 margin of shots on goal.
