Sorenson's Hat Trick Pushes Chargers Past Dean College 9-1

NEW LONDON, N.H. – The Chargers winning-streak hit four games on Saturday after defeating Dean College by a 9-1 final at Sally Shaw Veitch Track & Field.

Rapid Recap:
  • The Chargers got off to a quick start as senior Aiofe Daly (Harwich, Mass.) tallied back-to-back goals in the first six minutes off feeds from first year Kate Cochran (North Sutton, N.H.) and junior Aleah Murph (Portland, Maine). Senior Calie Sorenson (Sandwich, Mass.) added the next score just two minutes later on a Daly assist to give Colby-Sawyer a 3-0 lead. Murph continued to pour on the Chargers lead with her fifth goal of the year in the 12th minute. A busy first quarter came to an end with another Sorenson score from Daly to give the Chargers a 5-0 lead heading into the second quarter.
  • The second quarter started with more Charger offense as Cochran picked up collegiate goal number one finishing a score from Sorenson. Murph continued to pile on with her second score of the day just in the 27th minute.
  • Sorenson would add the hat-trick finish to start the third quarter with an unassisted strike in the 36th minute. Sophomore Emma Webster (Campton, N.H.) also celebrated collegiate goal number one in her career finishing a shot at the post from first year Abigail Hanney (Salem, Conn.). Sydnee Ramos scored the lone Bulldog goal in the 43rd minute via the penalty stroke to conclude the scoring.
Player Spotlight:

"I couldn't be more proud of this team", said senior Calie Sorenson (Sandwich, Mass.). "Each game we continue to exemplify grit and play our game. This is Colby-Sawyer field hockey."

Notes & Notables:

  • Daly and Murph each added a pair of scores, while Cochran and Webster each added their first collegiate goal of their career.
  • Daly also led the passing attack with a pair of helpers, while Murph, Cochran and Sorenson each added an assist.
  • Senior Lauren Wilkinson (Lynn, Mass.) picked up the win to bring her record to 5-1 this season. Sophomore Carly Bernard (Swanze, N.H.) stepped in for Colby-Sawyer playing 45 minutes allowing a goal and stopping a single shot.
