Chargers Field Hockey Flexes in 5-0 Victory Against the University of Saint Joseph

WEST HARTFORD, Conn. – The Colby-Sawyer Chargers field hockey team debuted in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) play today with a dominating 5-0 victory over the University of Saint Joseph Blue Jays. 

Rapid Recap: 
  • The Chargers attacked quickly in the first quarter launching six shot, however the Blue Jays defense hung in strong to deny an opening period goal. Colby-Sawyer finally struck in the 19th minute as first year Taylor Gaudette (North Conway, N.H.) finished home her second goal of the season on a feed from senior Aoife Daly (Harwich, Mass.). The Chargers continued the attack before finding themselves with a penalty stroke situation. Junior Aleah Murph (Portland, Maine) stepped up to the line and delivered the second goal of the day for the visitors pushing it past Wendy Bowden. 
  • In the second half the Colby-Sawyer attack stayed hungry getting another goal in the 39th minute as Daly found junior Sarah Babb (South Yarmouth, Mass.) for the third goal of the day. The fourth quarter stayed to the theme of the game with the Chargers getting two more goals as first year Abigail Hanney (Salem, Conn.) got her first collegiate goal in the 57th minute and Murph put home her second goal of the game in the 58th minute. 
Player Spotlight:

"This is Colby-Sawyer field hockey", said junior Aleah Murph. "We are just getting started."

Notes & Notables:
  • Murph led the offense with five points on the two goals and the assist. Babb and Hanney each added their first goal of the year, while Gaudette put home her second of the short season. 
  • Daly led the passing with a pair of assists, while Gaudette added her second assist of the season.
  • Senior Lauren Wilkinson (Lynn, Mass.) did not register a save in the shutout victory for the Chargers as she ties Abby Ladd for most shutout in program history (7). 
  • The Chargers outshot the Blue Jays by a whopping 25-1 margin with a 19-0 advanatage in shots on goal. Colby-Sawyer also had 15 penalty corners to zero from the University of Saint Joseph.
