SUNAPEE, N.H.
– This morning, head swimming and diving coach
Helaina Sacco, junior
Quinn Manion (Wesminster, Mass.) and senior
Kelsey Brown (Douglas, Mass.) was again challenged by swimming enthusiast and local Hogan Sports Center swimmer Skip Hause to race across the Sunapee Harbor for a fund-raising opportunity for the Colby-Sawyer swimming team.
For the past eight years, the seventy-eight-year-old legend has been challenging "celebrity" swimmers to a half-mile open water swim across the beautiful Sunapee Harbor, starting in Lake Avenue and ending in Dewey Beach. This year would be extra special as two current student-athletes would also compete in the half-mile along with Sacco and Hause.
This year Hause was awarded a 16-minute head start against Sacco and Manion, while given 19 minutes ahead of Brown. The minutes were bumped from 12 last year after Sacco was able catch up to Skip just 10 minutes into her swim. The race this year would also prove more of a challenge for all the swimmers as the water temperature 10-15 degrees colder than last year
The Results:
Hause took home the crown this year crossing the finish line first in 31 minutes. Brown was next finishing only eight seconds behind Skip, while Sacco and Manion finished a minute and thirty seconds behind.
"We had a great time swimming across Sunapee Harbor", said Sacco. "I want to thank everyone who came out to support us and donated to the program."
