NEW LONDON, N.H. – The Colby-Sawyer women's tennis program will compete in the NCAA Division III Women's Tennis Championship securing an automatic bid after winning the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) championship on October 23rd.
The Chargers had a dominant run in the GNAC this year finishing with a 16-6 overall record and a perfect 6-0 record in conference competition. The Chargers will be matched up against Williams College who finished the year with a 8-9 record and a 6-4 record in the New England Small Collegiate Athletic Conference (NESCAC).
First year and GNAC Rookie of the Year
Grace Carpenter (Milford, N.H.) will try and lead the Chargers as Carpenter finished with a 16-4 singles record this year. Junior
Emily Hill (Wilmington, Mass.) will also be key to victory as Hill held a 11-2 record in #2 singles action this year part of her 12-4 overall singles record.
The Chargers has made the NCAA tournament eight times prior to this year and last made the tournament back in 2018-19, falling to Nichols College by a 5-4 margin back on May 10th, 2019. Colby-Sawyer has made it to the second round three times in program history with the latest coming 2017-18.
Williams College has been a powerhouse in women's tennis since its first varsity season back in 1973. The Ephs have won a NCAA record 10 championships over their history with the last coming back in 2017.
The teams will play the first round of the single-elimination tournament on Friday May 13th or Saturday May 14th at regional host Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) in Cambridge, Mass. on the Dupont Tennis Courts.
