Chargers Draw in Scoreless Tie Against Sharks

BOSTON, Mass. - The Colby-Sawyer women's soccer team tied Simmons University in their Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) match on Saturday afternoon. 

Rapid Recap: 
  • The Chargers applied early pressure to the Sharks backline recording 10 shots in the opening 25 minutes respectively of the first half. The attack was generated by several Chargers including senior Hannah Marquis (Weare, N.H.), junior Kara Keiper (Peterborough, N.H.), and first year Lauren Ardolino (Milford, Conn.) who each put up two shots. Sophomore Bridget O'Connell (Peabody, Mass.) forced two saves from the Sharks goalkeeper Marita Nothacker. On the defensive side, the Chargers kept the Sharks attack at bay only allowing them to get one shot off in the first half, but the score remained 0-0 heading into halftime. 
  • In the second half, the Chargers continued to push the ball forward into the Sharks defensive third of the field. Senior Grace Walsh (Marstons Mills, Mass.) and Ardolino each fired early shots on target that were saved by Nothacker. In the 58th minute, Kayla Noonan cracked a shot into the bottom right corner of the Chargers net, but senior goalkeeper Alexis LeBreton (Bangor, Maine) was able to make the save. 
  • In the 88th minute of the match, Keiper had a chance to break the goal drought, but Nothacker was able to deny the goal scoring opportunity to end the match with a 0-0 final. 
Stats & Figures:
  • O'Connell led the team in shots getting five of her eight shots on target. Ardolino followed behind with five shots while Keiper and Marquis each recorded four shots.  
  • LeBreton earned the clean sheet after making one save against the Sharks.
  • The Chargers outshot the Sharks 34-6 with a 13-1 margin in shots on target.
