Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Chargers Blow Past Norwich University 2-0

NORTHFIELD, Vt. - The Colby-Sawyer women's soccer team picked up their fourth Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) win on Wednesday defeating Norwich University by a 2-0 final. 

Rapid Recap: 
  • The Chargers attacked quickly getting a pair of shots on target in the first 15 minutes as senior Grace Walsh (Marstons Mills, Mass.) and junior Sam Bishop (Windham, N.H.) each took shots that were saved by Rebecca Karis. In the 31st minute sophomore Bridget O'Connell (Peabody, Mass.) opened up the scoring, stealing the ball off a defender into a breakaway before placing it into the back of the net. Neither team would get another opportunity in the first half with the Chargers up 1-0. 
  • The scoring continued for Colby-Sawyer in the 63rd minute as senior Hannah Marquis (Weare, N.H.) sprinted past the Cadet defense to get the ball before lacing a shot into the left corner to double the Charger lead. Colby-Sawyer continued to take shots including another good opportunity by Walsh, but the 2-0 advantage would hold for the final score. 
Player Spotlight:

"I am so proud of this team", said senior Hannah Marquis (Weare, N.H.). "We brought the energy and put a solid 90 minutes together. We definitely could have finished a few more opportunites, but I am so happy with the effort by everyone in the win!"

Stats & Figures:
  • The Chargers out shot the Cadets by a 16-2 margin with a 9-0 on target differential. Colby-Sawyer also had 7-2 corner kick advantage in the contest. 
  • O'Connell continues her career-best season with her ninth goal, while Marquis picked up her second goal of the year. 
  • Senior Alexis LeBreton (Bangor, Maine) earned their fourth clean sheet of the year. LeBreton's record improves to 3-7-2 on the year making zero saves in the win. 
Playoff Push:
  • The Chargers currently sit in the seventh seed in the GNAC playoff picture with four conference games remaining. The top eight seeds will earn playoff bids, with the top four teams hosting a  home playoff game in the first round. 
Up Next: 
The Chargers have a quick turn around heading to Salem State University tomorrow with a 7 PM kickoff.
