Chargers Fall to Saint Joseph's College of Maine in Home Finale

NEW LONDON, N.H. - The Colby-Sawyer women's soccer team dropped their final home contest of the season falling to Saint Joseph's College of Maine by a 2-1 final on Wednesday.

Rapid Recap:
  • The Chargers had the first chance of the game as senior Grace Walsh (Marstons Mills, Mass.) took a shot that was saved by Carly Downey. The Monks quickly took advantage testing senior goalkeeper Alexis LeBreton (Bangor, Maine) who stopped an decent opportunity by Darcy Wright in the 15th minute. Sophomore Bridget O'Connell (Peabody, Mass.) got the Chargers back on the attack taking the next two shots. Colby-Sawyer stayed in control until the 29th minute when Sydney Gallop carried the ball from the midfield before splitting the defense with a pass to Madison Michaud who scored past a diving LeBreton. The Monks would take a couple more opportunities, but none would find the net as Saint Joseph's led 1-0 into the break.
  • Colby-Sawyer came out the gate strong as O'Connell, senior Hannah Marquis (Weare, N.H.) and junior Sam Bishop (Windham, N.H.) all took chances on the net, but were turned away by Downey. The Monks added insurance in the 65th minute as off of the Bishop shot the visitors pushed the tempo finding Aaliyah Wilson-Falcone who finished a left-footed shot to double the lead. The Chargers responded in the 75th minute as junior Kara Keiper (Peterborough, N.H.) laced a ball to Marquis who finished past Downey to cut the lead in half. The Chargers had two final opportunities, but O'Connell couldn't find the net in either shot as the Monks held on for the win.
