PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Chargers field hockey team dropped a contest to Johnson & Wales University by a 3-0 final in regulation on Wednesday.
Rapid Recap:
- The Wildcats took an early lead as Jillian Miele scored her 19th goal of the season within the first 5 minutes of play. Colby-Sawyer tried to answer late as first year Taylor Gaudette (North Conway, N.H.) launched a shot at the 13:53 mark, but was stopped by Madison Flaxington. In the second quarter senior Bella Silva (Danvers, Mass.) took the second shot on target for the Chargers but was again turned away. The Wildcats would only get one more shot in the period that was stopped by senior Lauren Wilkinson (Lynn, Mass.)
- In the second half junior Aleah Murph (Portland, Maine) stepped up in a big way collecting a defensive save on a Miele shot in the 37th minute. Johnson & Wales added an insurance goal in the 38th minute off another Wilkinson save as Emma Ferrara hit the back of the net the first time this season. Murph added two more defensive saves in the 55th minute before Margaret Johnson sealed the day with the 3rd goal for the Wildcats just moments after.
Stats & Figures:
- Murph posted a program-record three defensive saves in the contest. Murph also now ties the career-record of eight defensive saves all time in program history and is now up to five defensive saves this season.
- Wilkinson stopped three shots in the cage for Colby-Sawyer in the loss.
- The Wildcats outshot the Chargers by a 17-8 margin with a 9-4 on target differential.
